As we sifted through what was left of the house, I stumbled upon this little guy. A stuffed animal my mother had sent down a few months back that the kids fought over daily. When I found it, charred, buried under insulation, and pieces of the roof, I immediately broke down. 2 innocent kids had their lives changed forever a week ago. They witnessed me run into the fire, time and time again, despite their screams not to. They watched as I came out of the house for the last time, defeated, covered from head to toe in ash and soot, and stood helpless while everything they owned in this world went up in flames. A fair amount of innocence was lost that night, and I don’t know if it can ever be replaced. People keep asking me what I need. I don’t need sleep, I don’t need a shower, I don’t need a change of clothes. I need to get the kids squared away. I need to get a roof over their heads, and to listen to them laughing again. A week ago, as we watched every material thing we owned disappear in a matter of minutes, I realized I had what mattered most standing next to me, and there wasn’t much else I needed at the time. Thank you again to everyone who has helped out along the way. I’ve found out who my real friends are, the ones that care, and the ones that never did. I found a new definition of family, and my real purpose in life. While what we are going through sucks, and I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy, it’s given me a better appreciation for what I have left, and who has stood by me through it all. When I moved to Oklahoma I told Sayra I’d walk through fire for her and the kids. A few nights ago, I told her I didn’t think I’d have to prove myself so soon. For all of you that have become family over the past week, know that I’m forever grateful, and would do the same for each and every one of you.

Today is 19 years since the Oklahoma City bombing. Sifting around through the debris of the house, trying to salvage what we can, I keep thinking how lucky we are that we all made it out with our lives. I keep stopping to think what life would be like if we hadnt. The Oklahoma City Fire Department was nothing short of amazing in their actions during and after the fire. Im sure a few of those guys were there the day of the bombing as well and performed the same acts of heroism on a much larger scale. Being a new Oklahoma resident, my heart goes out to all those who were effected by this…and to all my oklahomies who have become family #oklahomastrong #oklahomies #downrangefirearmstraining
Thank you everyone. We spent the better part of yesterday wading through debris and ash, trying to salvage what we could of clothes and furniture and personal belongings, especially for the kids. Standing in the middle of the house, with everything charred, and being able to look up and see the sky through the living room ceiling I’m just thankful no one was injured. I ran into the house 4 times to try and put the fire out before I was burned and the smoke and flames were too much to handle. Incredibly thankful to be alive and be able to hug my family today. Thank you all for everything. I’ll can’t express in words how much the support means to us.
